The Rabbicorn Story opens July 10th at IBM3 sim

So here is the SLURL to IBM 3. It opens at 6pm sl time today

The Rabbicorn

hope you enjoy it. There is also a machinima inside so left click a TV later on in the story.

Quite some time ago I thought up a character called the Rabbicorn. Part rabbit part unicorn. I built up this whole story in my mind about where she came from and how. I sketched it out wrote down the story and then I promptly put it on the shelf and made the Gashlycrumb Tinies build for Arcspace. The Rabbicorn is connected to a variety of the characters I make, but to me she is one of my favorites. I had always planned on making this story in Second Life but I never had the space to do it properly. Immersiva is the world she lives in but to tell her story there would require me to delete most everything. So I was quite happy when IBM approached me to use one of their full sims for a project, and I knew exactly what I wanted to use it for.

IBM have recently become interested
in Second Life artists. And we can thank Tezcatlipoca Bisani and Jessica Qin for pushing this. Because of them IBM have made available two full sims for artists to use to build creations. I read some of the upcoming artists to use the space and they are brilliant. I really think IBM will be the new place to see artists doing mega projects.

The Rabbicorn story will open Friday July 10th. It is best viewed alone or with just a few people around. Because of my desire for it to be viewed this way, I have asked that the sim be limited to a maximum of 6 avatars. Now as you can imagine this is not a very popular idea. For one, people may find they cant get in and never try again. Another problem would be that the traffic counter will show few people coming to see it and might be interpreted as a lack of interest by SL residents in these shows they are staging. So if I can't limit the sim to 6 or so, and you find yourself in a laggy mass of people then please come at another time when it is empty. It really is meant to be seen this way. It has a mood brought on by the story, ambient sounds and being alone brings out the quiet mood of the story. Hope everyone can come to see it. I think its one of my best builds.

Looking forward to it Bryn, I think seeing it in very small groups will be a good thing. Sometimes it is easy to get distracted and not get as full of experience as the artist intended.

And congrats on the Best of Brooklyn is Watching finals

Hope it's not too much of a spoiler but I HAD to post the pictures I took today at the Rabbicorn.

I almost cried in delight when I heard Tom Waits' "Fawn" in the tower.

Amazing installation... Immersiva was great but this one was perfect. And I'm a better builder after every visit to your places :)

Best,
Nahasa Singh

I was teleporting a friend to show them Immersiva when they crashed in transit. Whilst I was waiting for them to return, I saw the info on the Rabbicorn story and immediately went there - I loved it immediately.

You are a lovely builder, and wonderful storyteller as well. I look forward to all of your builds.

Bryn,

Some parts made me smile (bonus points for most interesting use of Ottowa blueprints!)

The story was an interesting one and some twists that I hadnt expected to see...

Very intrigued tho.. I've got a bet with myself how you'll answer this, but did you have the backstory for the Rabbicorn before or after he was brought to life in the virtual worlds?

As always.. incredible work.. and IBM was lucky to get your work displayed ;)

Incredible work Bryn, a profoundly haunting and unique experience.

Thank you everyone for the nice comments. Great article Joan I am flattered. Phillip the Daughter of Gears and the Rabbicorn were both thought up while I was in Second Life. I have quite a few stories in my head and actually the Rabbicorn is part two of three. Not sure when i will get around to doing part three though.

Made an album of images, didn't want to give too much away to people who haven't yet been so they are mainly close-up details.

I very much enjoyed it. I was wondering if the tower is the last stanza? I couldn't go any further my av Kept falling from the top. Also I had to move my cam angle to read it as it wasn't the hand icon like the rest.
Bryn Oh said…
Hi Keith, the final tp takes you back to the start where you arrived. You don't have to climb the entire tower to find the tp, its about 1/3 of the way up right in front of the Rabbicorn as it is jumping. You can also hold down ctrl and alt at once and move your mouse then holding down left mouse button to change your angle to better view the inside of the tower.
Be sure to keep both ctrl and alt held down for the whole time, while just using left mouse button to change the angle you are viewing. To change angle move mouse will all three held down (scroll wheel will zoom forward)
